Hundreds of Bass Caught in Potomac Tourney
By Fredrick Matos

The 2008 Maryland Bass Federation Nation (MBFN) Tournament Trail series of events kicked off on a very windy Saturday April 5th with 90 enthusiastic anglers in the water on the Potomac River, launching at Smallwood State Park . It’s a great area for bass, with many great and diverse fishing locations such as the main river, various tributaries, coves, docks and structures, all presenting many opportunities to use unique angling strategies and tactics.

The Butch Ward Memorial Tournament
By Jim Kline

The Butch Ward Memorial Tournament was held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, on the Susquehanna River out of River Front Campground. Butch was shining down on the 35 two-man teams as records were shattered at the 9th Annual Tournament. Eleven limits of three fish, 18 inches and over, were brought to the scales, 16 fish weighing in at 4 pounds and up, for a total of 46 keepers. The lunker fish weighed in at 5 lb. 7 oz. and was caught by the team of Dave Bruchey/Tony Tozzolo. Congratulations to the winning team of Ed Keller and Dave Frye, with a weight of 12 lb. 11 oz., Jason Myers and Robert Boyer took second place with 11 lb. 12 oz., and John Chortanoff and Jermell Fleming came in third with 11 lb. 4 oz. Thanks to Eric, Joe and John for your help with this tournament. Thanks to all who fished this tournament, because of you money will again go out of this event to the Butch Ward Scholarship. Last, but not least, thanks to Ken Penrod for his monetary donation to the scholarship fund.
